V for Vendetta, by Alan Moore

Category: Graphic novel

Story: Dystopian near-future UK is controlled by a totalitarian government split up into Fate (the computer system that essentially makes up the government), The Ear, The Eye, The Nose and The Finger. V, a revolutionary wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, tries to destroy the government in an effort to liberate the people of the UK.

Opinion: Watchmen gave me a good taste of what Alan Moore’s books are like, and V for Vendetta totally lived up to expectations. I’d seen the movie 1.5 times, but as good as that is there is a lot of background stuff and depth missing. Even after reading the book I felt like I didn’t pick up on all the subtleties, the political games, the cultural references, but the story was a lot more fleshed out and all the better for it.
