A Clash of Kings, by George R.R. Martin

Category: Fantasy

Story: I don’t really want to spoil this series, so head on over to Wikipedia if you must know!

Opinion: There’s quite a lot to live up to after the first book in the series, but this installment definitely delivers. Having gotten the most important history out of the way in A Game of Thrones, Martin is able to focus more on the setting and politics in this book. That really pays off; while overall the pace seems to be a bit slower than in the previous book, I think the story itself is a lot more substantial.

Another bonus point: Martin doesn’t re-hash the previous book too much, which is especially good when you’re reading the books back-to-back as I am.
